Supporting self-care skills in children with autism spectrum disorder through applied behavioral analysis methods

The thesis deals with the problem of learning self-care skills in children with autism spectrum disorder through the methods of applied behavior analysis. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the legislative framework of education in the Czech Republic with a focus on special education counselling and the provision of support measures in education. Furthermore, autism spectrum disorders are characterized and the basic theoretical foundations of applied behavior analysis are defined. The empirical part of the thesis is divided into two parts, the first of which aims to present the theoretical foundations of the problem of toilet training, developed mainly from foreign literature, as well as foreign studies conducted on the topic. The second part of the empirical part of the thesis contains a case study of two children with autism spectrum disorder. In the preparation of the empirical part of the thesis, the following techiques were used: analysis of the studied literature, review of foreign studies, document analysis and case study. The informants of the case study were two children with autism spectrum disorder who were trained in toilet training through applied behavior analysis methods. Specific of selected approaches in pre-shcool education of children with autism spectrum

The presented masters thesis deals with selected educational approaches that are used in preschool children with autism spectrum disorder. The theoretical part defines the broad concept of autism, the role of preschool education, and describes methods of work with autistic children of the given age. It also explains the basic characteristics of the Son-Rise program, Applied Behavioral Analysis and TEACCH. In the empiric part within the qualitative research survey, the thesis aims to obtain an overview of the views of teachers focused on the advantages and disadvantages of selected methods. Function of positive reinforcement in a learning process.

Diploma thesis focuses on effect of positive reinforcement and it's application in the learning process. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and analytical. Theoretical part describes importance of positive reinforcement in a learning process and behavior overall. How organisms acquire new skills and how effective teaching methods look like. Analytical part provides practical use of positive reinforcement in an effective teaching method called Discrete Trial Teaching. It's application, use, and correct implementation is provided through an example of teaching a motor imitation behavior.
